Its toponym derives from the Latin "castanea", chestnut; Castagneto thus meaning chestnut woods. 1900 arrived the adjective "Marittimo" (of the Maremma, from the Latin "Maritima"), which was replaced in 1907 by the current name Carducci, in honor of the Italian poet who lived there a few years as a child.
