Livorno-Collesalvetti

Livorno

It is the capital of the Province of Livorno, having a population of approximately 161,000 residents in 2011. Is a port city on the Ligurian Sea on the western coast of Tuscany, Italy.

Livorno was designed as an "ideal town" during the Italian Renaissance, when it was ruled by the Grand Duke of the Medici family.[citation needed] Major additions were designed by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti at the end of the 16th century. The Medici port was overlooked and defended by towers and fortresses leading to the town centre.

Collesalvetti

Is a municipality of 15.866 inhabitants in the province of Livorno (Leghorn). Its first toponym dates back to 1272 as "Collis Salvecti", meaning Salvetto's hill, where Salvetto is a person's name. Collesalvetti stands southwards of the plane of Pise. In this hilly region farming activities are very developed.
